Dennis graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968 and a Master of Arts in Political Science in 1970. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Laws in 1976 and was admitted to the Alberta bar in 1977. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1991.
He has been a member of the Litigation subsection of the Canadian Bar Association as well as serving on its executive. He has also served as a lecturer for the Bar Admission Course presented by the Legal Education Society of Alberta and has been a panelist on seminars sponsored by LESA.
He has also served on the executive of and as President of Edmonton Crime Stoppers.

Dennis' dominant area of practice over the past 40 years has been corporate and commercial litigation, including wrongful dismissal claims, commercial lease disputes, disputed land transactions, securities disputes, receiverships and all manner of contractual and commercial disputes.
He has appeared before all levels of Courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as City Council and a number of Administrative Tribunals.
Dennis also practices in the areas of real estate, corporate matters, wills and estates and business law.
